The first thing that strikes the visitor is the inequality.
The Radical – 14th Nov 2017
The second is we are 8 hours ahead of you and jet lag has set in.
The third appears to be the subservience to the system
Rocking the boat doesn’t happen here like in Manila.
More conditioning has taken place ?
Manila is for mass demonstrations greeting Trump…. and Duterte,
who is in danger of playing the Yanks and Chinese each way —
for personal gain ?
Is America an Asian Country – No of course it is not.
(But it still meddles here)
Not unless it is attacking Vietnam or North Korea.
So why is Trump here in the Philippines
Trade and Profit Protection rackets.
Its all over the shops which is my story for today.
Americanism I mean
The Radical and Rene went shopping today
First to Emall or Elizabeth Mall to change money
66.40peso to the pound because the pound fell again but the best in Town
So we stepped out of the nice cool room into 36C and the sun blazing down
into a taxi with AC and after 15 mins across town the fare was 100 peso
Then to Emall Supermarket thinking about prices for food commodities.
Whole chicken at 137 peso a kilo – £2.64/kilo –
You compare it with the UK
Steak -Rib Eyes – and I mean it real eyes – more like Fillet at 397 peso / kg or £5.98/kg –
All the way from Aussie land …..but complete rubbish and more like selected Stewing meat
Huge King Prawns 480 peso/kg = £7.20 per kg.
Potatoes 50peso /500gms
Cabbage 37 peso /500gms
Papaya 23 peso /500gms
Mango 77 peso /500gms
Wholemeal Bread large lof 72peso each.
Frozen veg is best because the weather does unkind things to fresh veg here.
We had a prawn stir fry for supper
Breakfast will consist of Cornflakes and papaya
with whole milk from European farms at 74 peso per litre – UHT milk
and scrambled eggs with brown bread and Marmalade.
And that will be it for the day.
Too hot to eat more.
So we buy 5litres of drinking water for 70 peso at the Hotel shop ( saves carrying it far )
Our Condotel is next to SM Supermarket complex which sells everything
And eveyone flocks there from 10am – 10pm because the air con is on powerfully
Something to do with attracting trade
Of the 2951 peso we spent 217 peso was VAT at 12%
We have bought a map of Cebu and are still lost,
but hope to get our bearings better tomorrow, which we did.
Hope it is not too cold in the UK
Brother I am sweating here, phew –
Mad Dogs and Englishmen …
But losing weight too because I am in complete abstinence
Not a drop now until I get home.
I promised myself
