Returned to the Condo from the Airport for a King Prawn Stir Fry Supper…
20th Nov 2017
…then a Bacon and Egg Breakfast following Cornflakes Papaya and UHT Whole Milk, Earl Grey Tea with bags from home, Whole wheat and Bran Bread and Marmalade and then the water stops flowing for the next three days due to the municipal water company incompetence to keep the water pipes from leaking.
Hurrah its Monday morning at 5am and the water has just come back on again.
Ablutions Abound – My wife says – Quick a Shit a Shave before it stops, but she is happy to be able to do the washing up from visiting relations who joined us the night before.
Then the Water went off again by 9am
I have not spoken to you about the relations situation.
Living in poverty the children are so thankful for small mercies as we hand them some pocket money, which immediately they convert into essentials, not toys or books but like a new pair of trousers to replace the ones they have grown out of because mother and father are penniless.
My wife’s father has a stomach ulcer which Ranitidine helps and Aluminium Hydroxide.
The Ranitidine costs 3 times as much as in Asda and the Aluminium Hydroxide was 90 peso for 10 or 5 times what it is in Asda and they still make a profit on it there.
So Mr Duterte it is not the drug pushers you should be murdering but the Drug Barons exploiting these poor people with extortionate medicine charging.
Clearly someone is making a huge fortune out of the sick here.
There is no safety net no welfare no security no health service – the sick must pay, and the girls living in shacks on the street wash hair and bottom in the public highway – dressed of course, using a washing powder sachet they bought for 6 peso.
They do everything but make love in public for they sleep on the pavement.
Shame on you President Duterte, Shame on you Philippine rich.
Shame on you Religions with your fine churches and frocked priests dishing out salvation in the next world -Its a dog eat dog life here on earth.
Do I feel safe here ?
No not really, So I keep my wits about me but writing this here I should save it for posting at home.
Freedom’s Fight comes at a cost.
Fair is not part of the vocabulary here.
Labour is exploited and every Filipino wants out except the Government charge for that.
OFW Overseas Foreign workers pay 1600 peso to leave at airports plus a 700 peso airport tax.
Thats £34 and a months salary if you are working, but is nothing compared to the charges the Filipino pays to Nurse in Britain.
There is no free training here, no free Agency charges.
No free Uniforms, No expenses paid.
As I write this the water is off again but the A/C and Wifi are working fine
