Petition calling for the Scottish Parliament…
(a) appoint a Minister for Food; and
(b) recognise that food production is an issue that should not be solely regarded as a rural affair;
(c) look at other countries to find new ways of supporting Scotland’s farmers, and
(d) acknowledge that its negotiating position in Brussels needs to be reviewed.
Withdrawn through a lack of interest –
Not enough Farmers supporters either in Scotland or the English Parliament for that matter, especially on the Labour benches.
Yet Food is an essential ingredient of life.
DEFRA – The Dept of Environment Food and Rural Affairs
Most food is produced on farms
So Farming is more than a “Rural Affair”.
The Environment is a separate subject,
large enough to have a Ministry of its own.
Lets talk Food and Farming
For a Market to exist there must be buyers as well as sellers
And Supermarkets and Agricultural Conglomerates
have corned the market removing opposition.
So we must find out how support for farming end up in their pockets.
We need a Minister for Food to represent both Consumers and Producers
The Food Manufacturers are conning the public too.
Labelling is small print – salt and sugar the subject
Health the issue.
EU Brussels the CAP -the Common Agricultural Policy
now the “Single Market”is flawed.
Its is far from “Common” to all EU Countries
Exploitation is the name of the game by Germany and France in particular
No wonder the British voted to LEAVE.
How do these European farmers get away with flaunting EU rules
and are able to under cut UK prices ?
How can they produce Dairy products cheaper there
and get them into UK markets at lower prices than UK farmers can produce them.
Many Uk farmers are growing food and required to sell
at below cost of production to the middleman ?
That cannot continue
We need to go back to Farming Marketting Boards
We need to go back to Guaranteed Prices
We need to go back to Cooperatives
We need to go back to the Labour Spirit of 45 if only Labour 2017 could recognise it.
The Tories are the party of the Squirearchy.
They talk Competition and Practice Takeover
Land Prices are excluding all but the very rich from buying land
( Which we are not producing more of)
As the area under food production shrinks annually
So a Land Tax is required on the wealthy
While support is given to hill and Upland Farms
We must become more self sufficient in food
The Radical advocates a policy of HOME GROWN first
to include Allotments and Gardens
as well as Intensive and Traditional food production
The UK has a farming system — “Corn and Horn” – North & South
and with the changing climate there is more need than ever
create a Minister for Food.
