OPEN RIGHTS

Dear Friend,

The Government’s Test and Trace Programme risks the privacy rights of hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of individuals in the UK whose personal data has been or will be processed through the Programme.

The public can’t know if it should trust the Programme because a vital (and legally required) safety step known as a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) was dangerously ignored.

Open Rights Group (ORG) will not let this senseless oversight stand. That’s why we’re threatening legal action unless a proper DPIA is conducted immediately. Giles, will you help fund our legal demand?

ORG wants the Government to defeat the pandemic, but their Test and Trace Programme is hastily put together, and Government has not made the effort to check our data is safe. They are making the same privacy missteps that damaged the NHSX tracker app.

We are forced to take action, because the Information Commissioner is not doing its job. When the regulator fails, it is up to us to step in.

With your support, last month our legal demands got the Government’s attention and helped lead to their decision to opt for a privacy-conscious tracker app. Together we can do it again.

Thank you for supporting digital rights.
