Yesterday was the Vernal Equinox
21st March 2018
Did it make you feel Happy ?
The Sun shone and the red line shot up the thermometer
The soil in Shildon reached 6C
So we shall begin planting second early potatoes
With a little helper – some compoubd fertilizer.
In our new raised beds filled with unknown soil
But tested as ph neutral – You dont want soil too alkaline for potatoes
The Kestrel variety have been chitting in doors and are about to feel the chill
Planting them 4-6″ deep and 12″ apart they should be showing by mid April
When we shall bank them up and leave them until July 1st
Broad Beans have been out in pots and had a snow covering but emerged unscathed
Early Onward peas are appearing in the “Green” House in trays. They will be grown in pots this year.
We have received 850 plug plants and these were transplanted into 9cm pots,
but we are expecting another delivery of 340 any day and are ready for them.
Lokking forward to a colourful show of bedding plants.
Spring in our step and raring to go !
