REMEMBER DOCTORS BURY THEIR MISTAKES
6th July 2018
The fact of the matter was that the medical profession fought against the formation of the NHS and many still abuse its privileges chosing to practice sessions in the National Health and reserving the right to practice private medicine for most of their time.
It was Barbara Castle MP – Labour Health Secretary and the Nurses who campaigned against NHS staff being allowed to have two jobs at the same time.
The Consultants rebelled saying they would leave en masse and she caved in.
The result is that today the Medical Profession have been featherbedded by the NHS and if there is anything that must change it is that Doctors must be brought into the same contracts as other Health Professionals.
Here in Shildon we still have a situation ,in a Labour Town Council and Labour County Council where privatisation has resulted in Doctors being able to demand terms through a private company in order to meet the needs of the local community who otherwise might not be able to persuade these Doctors to work in the area.
Holding the NHS the Health Authority and the People to ransom.
Of course under a Socialist Government these Doctors would be thrown out on their ears or given two choices.
Consultants given the choice too.
Work for either the NHS or Private Practice but not both. 90% Would choose the NHS where their Bread and Butter comes from.
ONLY the ROYALS, THE RULING ARISTOCRATIC CLASSES AND CAPITALIST RICH CAN AFFORD TO GO PRIVATE
We have Registrars a plenty to take over dead men’s shoes and where there are shortfalls in
Senior Cover and a feldsher system of travelling doctors and nurses caring for the communities
needing health care.
That is until enough of the right doctors can be trained.
We have specialist Nurses too
In fact we have always had specialist nurses.
Covering for shortfalls in the service.
I kid you not.
Even at St James Hospital LEEDS ,Accident and Emergency Nurses covered for Doctors
who could hardly speak a word of English and one wondered what qualifications they really
There were dedicated specialist hospitals too.
The Birmingham Accident Hospital ( THE ACCY) set up on Socialist principles
by William Gissane,Ruscoe Alan Clarke, PS London, Simon Sevitt and many more where young doctors nurses and technicians learned the techniques of Accident (Traumatic) Surgery and pioneered the way for the NHS until it was closed by the Tories
Which conveniently turns me to the Hospital Managers.
Under the Tories – Reorganisation meant getting rid of the best by bosses who had no
Hospital experience but plenty of experience of cutting and slashing both people and property.
Out went the Geriatric Hospitals, the Mental Hositals, the Trauma Hospitals, the Cottage
Hospitals, the Pre- Convalescent Hospitals and the dedicated people along with them
In came unqualified staff in the name of Healthcare Assistants with inservice training for one
function only to replace the well qualified Staff nurse and Sister.
If you break your leg you want someone in charge who knows what they are doing.
24 hours a day cover becomes expensive so ruthless managers cut corners
and mistakes happened- hence the title of this article
There are other problems with the National Health you hear little about.
In the past the 60’s the hospitals were run by a Matron
with a Hospital Secretary and Medical Director.
Abuse of positions was rife.
As soon as Matron retired or was usurped the Hospital Secretary increased his power to take
over “HOTEL SERVICES” – Catering Laundry Porters etc..etc.. while the MEDICAL DIRECTOR while creaming off the top ,left the day to day running of the hospital to anyone who had wide elbows.
The result of that TODAY is that, even at Centres of Excellence, the place is run by what was
MEDICAL RECORDS who also became ADMISSIONS OFFICERS and the result
today is that they sit and you stand to attention as they laud it over the place.
AT MANY HOSPITALS TODAY YOU MIGHT GET THE IMPRESSION THAT THE STAFF WERE
DOING YOU THE FAVOUR.
A HEALTH SERVICE no longer but a practice designed to prepare you for we know best and if
you want our service you must pay for it.
MARK MY WORDS – There are staff DEVOTED TO THE NHS but not in the positions of
THE WORDS SAVE THE NHS HAS A MORE PERTINENT MEANING THAT MOST APPRECIATE.
