This Week: Stop the War is supporting the Palestine Solidaty Campaign’s protest against annexation, Assange meeting to take place this Saturday, and we are lauching our Summer Appeal today.
National Day of Action Against Annexation
– Palestine Solidarity Campaign –
The Israeli government has made its intentions clear. Starting in July they plan to unilaterally annex large swathes of the illegally occupied West Bank, declaring the territory an integral part of Israel proper. Annexation, illegal under international law, is the forcible and unilateral acquisition of territory over which it has no recognised sovereignty and to make it an integral part of the state – in this case, Israel.
Saturday July 4th:
Complying with Coronavirus restrictions, we are calling for groups made up of no more than 6 people, adhering to social distancing regulations, to demonstrate by holding signs with the slogans Stop Annexation, Sanctions Now and End Apartheid.

Assange’s case is an attack on press freedom and his extradition will have huge consequences for the anti-war movement. This vital meeting with John Rees from the Don’t Extradite Assange Campaign will outline the reason’s we must stand against the extradition of Assange if we are to defend journalistic rights, and the anti-war movement’s right to the truth.
Summer Appeal – help us raise £4,000 this summer
Fantastic news! We met our June appeal target – which was matched by a very generous donor – so a big thank you to all of our supporters who so generously contributed.
Over the summer months our programme of online events and social media campaigns will continue; we hope this will attract more new members and supporters. We also hope to launch our new website.
The lockdown period has seen us reach larger audiences than we could have imagined. We have held eight national events over just three months and have heard some amazing speakers.
The pandemic has laid bare the disparity between rich and poor – both within and between states – and we have seen war-torn countries such as Yemen, Syria and Libya struggle to fight the virus with depleted health services, while bombs continue to fall.
Now that parts of the world are beginning to emerge from the health crisis, an economic crisis looms. Competition between states will intensify and those countries which have fared badly during the pandemic – notably the UK and US – will seek to blame others for their failure. International tensions will rise.
To ensure that we are in as strong a position as possible to take the anti-war movement forward in the autumn we are setting our summer appeal target at £4,000. We know that times are tough, but ask that those who are in a position to donate – however small an amount – to please do so. Help us emerge from this crisis even stronger.
