Jo Brand’s furious rant against the Royal Family

 ‘They don’t lift a finger!’

JO BRAND once launched into a furious rant about the Royal Family, lamenting that they “don’t lift a finger” to make a living.

Nigel Farage SLAMS BBC over ‘appalling’ Jo Brand joke

Ms Brand has become known for her fearless style of comedy, often pushing the boundaries of the genre. Beginning her career, she used the stage name the “Sea Monster”. Soon, she became part of the British alternative comedy movement, working the London alt-circuit and appearing on Saturday Live.

Since then, she has become one of the UK’s most familiar faces in comedy, regularly appearing on satirical shows like Have I Got News For You.

Throughout her career, she has taken regular aim at the Royal Family, herself being a staunch republican — a movement that seeks to replace the monarchy with a republic.

In 2013, she was caught up in a dispute over a joke she read from an autocue about Prince Harry using cocaine.

Many hit out against it, slamming the comedian for what they claimed were unfounded allegations about the royal.

Shortly afterwards, appearing in an interview with Chat Life TV, she addressed the pushback, and said she thought the joke was “hilarious”.

She went on to hit out at the Firm, claiming they didn’t “lift a finger” and so jokes about them were justified.

She said: “The fact for me is the Royal Family are natural targets, they don’t really lift a finger, they say they do, they seem to think that going to charity events is hard work.

“I can tell you I got to charity events, it’s not hard work.

“What’s hard is working in a factory and not earning the minimum wage.

“We support the Royal Family because we pay our taxes, and they use our money to live on.

“They own all this land and all these castles, and in my book, that’s really unfair.

“The very least they could do is be gracious about having the piss taken out of them.”

The joke in question came during an episode of Have I Got News For You that Ms Brand was presenting.
