‘Only a Brexiteer can deliver Brexit’ – Tory MP launches tirade against Theresa May
CONSERVATIVE MP Andrea Jenkyns told a Question Time audience that she supports replacing Theresa May as Prime Minister with either Boris Johnson or David Davis, claiming that only those who “believe in Brexit” can deliver it effectively.
“I think the only people who can actually deliver Brexit are people who believe in Brexit”
Andrea Jenkyns is a backbencher Conservative MP and prominent Brexiteer who is active in the ‘Leave means Leave’ campaign, which aims to uphold the referendum result.
She said: “As I’ve said many times I think the only people who can actually deliver Brexit are people who believe in Brexit.
“Not one party leader has taken these opportunities for Britain to take it forward including my Prime Minister Theresa May.
“It must be a Brexiteer, so that’s either David Davis or Boris Johnson because they have stood up for what they believe in.”
Mr David and Mr Johnson both resigned in July as Brexit and Foreign Secretary respectively in protest at Mrs May’s proposed Chequers deal.
Last month, Mr Johnson told The Times that the Prime Minister’s Brexit proposals were “entirely preposterous” and “deranged”.
Ms Jenkyns confirmed she has submitted a letter to the 1922 Committee calling for a no-confidence vote on the Prime Minister.
Such a vote will be triggered if letters from 48 Conservative MPs are collected.

She explained: “I’m a naturally loyal person but I am actually loyal to my constituents.
“There’s too many politicians who sit on the fence for an easy life, but sometimes you’ve got to put your head above the parapet and stand up for what you believe in.
“I’m standing up for the 17.3 million people who voted for Leave and I think this Government should deliver it.”
Mrs May insists she is determined to complete the Brexit process.
Rally by the ‘Leave means Leave’ group earlier this month
Earlier this month she urged her MPs to “hold our nerve” as negotiations continue and vowed to “deliver the Brexit that the British people voted for”.
She insisted: “The Brexit talks are not about my interests.
“They are about the national interests and the interests of the whole of the United Kingdom.”
However, Ms Jenkyns stated that while Mrs May should be replaced, it shouldn’t be with charismatic backbencher Jacob Rees-Mogg.
Asked on Question Time whether Mr Rees-Mogg could take over, she said: “Well, I personally think they’ve got to have Cabinet experience.”
