| Dear Friend|
Take action to free Sein Than! No Political Prisoners should be left behind in Burma’s jails!
People in Burma continue to be arrested and imprisoned for peacefully protesting for their rights.
A law introduced by Burma’s President, Thein Sein, means that anyone protesting without permission from the government can be thrown into jail. Thein Sein is using this law to stop people speaking out against his government’s policies.
Sein Than is an activist who is now in jail because of this law. He was arrested on 31st July 2014 for taking part in and leading peaceful protests in support of people demanding compensation or return of their land that had been confiscated by the military.
He was charged for protesting without government permission and “disrupting sidewalks” during his peaceful protests. Sein Than is basically in jail for standing on a pavement without government permission. He is serving a two year sentence in the notorious Insein prison.
Please email President Thein Sein, telling him it is time to free all political prisoners, and repeal laws used to jail political activists. Thank you. Wai Hnin Burma Campaign UK Take action for political prisoners here.
