Food Production will become….
….a Priority for an Independent Britain
That is if we are to be truly independent traders.
Rural Affairs will be determined by British Agricultural Policies for Britain.
What an opportunity to make self sufficiency top of the bill.
That means identifying those products we import most of
and provide support to produce them at home.
Some produce we import because we cannot grow them at home,
some produce we can export because we over produce it for our own needs.
That will always be the situation.
However making full use of the available land and climate will depend on support
for less favoured areas and that has not been the case in the past.
Central Marketing systems is another issue that has to be addressed.
Producer Boards will need to be re – established to develop, control and regulate supply to meet demand.
As a farmer, I discovered, surpluses of most things were in short supply,
support being number number one.
Farming is a precarious business as animals and the weather never behave as expected compared to other products.
Planning is paramount for farmers produce for an uncertain market and must market when their produce is in prime condition.
Not so a tin of Baked Beans.
If it doesn’t sell this week it can stay on the shelf until next week.
Not so in farming.
It is for all the reasons referred to that Britain needs to break up DEFRA,
Dept of the Environment Food and Rural Affairs.
Most food comes from Farms and Farming is more than a Rural Affair.
Take Food out of the Affair
A Ministry of Food is a priority for Brexit Britain
having responsibility for Farming to the Consumer.
I include the Fishing Industry in that Ministry.
The Environment and Rural Affairs are important.
We need to protect the first and develop the second and along with climate change is a Ministry important in it’s own right.
Brexit will give Britain the opportunity to control our own affairs.
Population growth must be curbed. Too many mouths to feed.
We need to reduce our balance of trade deficit in Food and become far more
This brings urban allotments and local markets more into the equation.
We need to control the production of unhealthy foods better.
The Salt and Sugar story is mostly about profit before people.
Which Parliamentary lot are most capable of imagination in thinking, planning
and implementing is debatable, but let them produce a plan
first for the people to examine.
What we are really short of is the consumer at the heart of the matter.
They have enormous power if only they could exercise in again.
Brexit Britain means just that –
The People Must Decide the Priorities not the Politicians
