Boris Johnson WARNED: Farage promises he’ll RESURRECT Brexit Party if UK caves to EU

NIGEL FARAGE has warned Boris Johnson he is ready to resurrect the Brexit Party if the UK compromises on a trade deal with the European Union.

Brexit: Farage says there may be ‘more battles to be fought’

In a scathing attack on the Prime Minister, Mr Farage has urged the UK negotiating team to tear-up the withdrawal agreement and warned if a last-minute trade deal is signed based on the treaty then the Brexit Party is “prepared to re-start the fight”. The leading eurosceptic reminded Mr Johnson he was elected on a mandate to deliver Britain’s exit from the EU and stated the Brexit Party has been “kept alive as an insurance policy”. Trade talks between the UK and EU continue to stall over areas including fisheries and state aid.

Negotiations have already gone beyond the October 15 deadline set by the Prime Minister in early September.

The Prime Minister has outlined plans for a Canada-style trade deal with the bloc, however Mr Farage has said those terms are in “direct contradiction” to the Brexit deal signed in January.

The Brexit Party leader added sell-out trade deal based on the withdrawal agreement would “come back to haunt” the Conservatives by the next election in 2024.

Mr Farage offered Mr Johnson a lifeline by stating he would support the party if it pursued a “clean break” from the EU as it would allow a Canada-style trade deal to be finalised further down the line.

Mr Farage said: “An Australia-style exit really would represent a clean break Brexit.

“Britain could reject the withdrawal agreement and begin 2021 with some basic agreements on the rights of EU citizens and on border controls.

“If Johnson went down this path, I would support him 100 per cent and by the time of the next general election, there would be a real possibility of a Canada-style free trade agreement.”

Writing in the Daily Telegraph, he added: “If the government does decide to take the easy way out by opting to do a deal based on the Withdrawal Agreement, I know that many of my excellent colleagues in the Brexit Party will be prepared to re-start the fight.

“As Ukip proved during David Cameron’s time in Downing Street, highly motivated insurgent political parties can split the Conservatives very effectively.

“I genuinely hope it does not come to this, but Johnson should be under no illusions about how serious this situation is.”

Brexit negotiators David Frost and his EU counterpart Michel Barnier have remained in contact despite the breakdown of discussions at the EU Council summit last week.

The Brexit transition period is due to officially end on December 31 and Mr Farage insists a deal is still to most likely outcome.

He predicts the UK will cave in on state aid and France will finally make concessions on UK fishing ground.
